SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Down two sets to none, Converse battles back to force the decisive fifth set but falls 3-2 (9-25, 14-25, 29-27, 25-22, 9-15) to North Greenville Tuesday night. Converse falls to 7-18 on the season and 1-10 in league play. North Greenville improves 16-9 on the season and 3-9 in league play.
Down two sets, the Valkyries battled its way back into the match winning the third and fourth set. Converse would tie things up at 24, 26 and 27-all before back to back service aces by Samantha Haynes (Chesnee, S.C.) gave the Valkyries the 29-27 set.
In the fourth set, Converse jumped out to a 14-9 lead after a Journee English (Columbia, S.C.) kill. Three kills by Katie Butler (Savannah, Ga.) and a kill by Scottie Kay Auton (Gaffney, S.C.) would finish off the set 25-22.
North Greenville would jump out to a 3-0 lead in the decisive set. Auton's kill would bring it to 6-7 before a Valkyrie error and a Crusader kill made it 6-9. Converse committed a service error and an attacking error followed by two kills from North Greenville spread the lead to 7-13. A Valkyrie service error would end the match and give the Crusaders the 3-2 victory.
Butler finished with a team high 15 kills and a hitting percentage of .300. Candace Clack (MacClenny, Fla.) posted 10 kills. Haynes chipped in seven kills to go with her 17 digs.
Aubrey Crosby (Spartanburg, S.C.) finished the match with 21 digs. Jordan Robertson (Greenville, S.C.) dished out a career-high 43 assists.
Converse returns to the court Saturday Nov. 1 at 2pm against Limestone.
