HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Converse (1-13, 1-7) field hockey team suffered a 5-0 loss to Coker (5-5, 4-4) in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon at the Coker Athletic Food. The Cobras posted three goals in the first followed by two more in the second to secure the win.
Of the Valkyries' five total shots, Marina Montes-Nino contributed a team-high two. A trio of Vals each registered one shot. Carla Deuble led Coker with two goals, while Alyssa O'Toole and Kaleigh Cordrey added one assist each.
The Cobras posted the game's first score just five and a half minutes into the contest after Victoria Watts beat the keeper for the first time of the season. That lead ballooned to 3-0 following a pair of goals in the 13th and 23rd minutes. Coker took that same lead into halftime.
Just as the first half started, the second mirrored with the Cobras posting an early goal, this time by Cordrey, extending the lead to 4-0 with less than 30 minutes to play. The Valkyries defense stepped up over the next 17 minutes of game action, but Emily Saulino beat the goalie in the 58th minute to push Coker to the 5-0 win.
The Valkyries will be back in action on Wednesday, November 7 as they travel to Newberry, S.C. to take on the Wolves. That contest is scheduled to start at 7 p.m.
