HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
After the two teams traded the initial eight points of the opening set, King established dominance with a massive 13-2 run, taking a comfortable 17-6 lead midway through the frame. The Valkyries were able to trim the deficit to 19-12 following a 6-2 burst, but King took the set, finishing on a 6-2 run of its own.
Second Set
Once again the set was evenly matched as King held a slim 10-8 lead early in set two. However, a run of 11-3 gave the Tornado a double-digit lead (21-11). Three straight by Converse closed the gap to 21-14, but King took four of the final six points, earning a commanding 2-0 match lead.
Third Set
Back-to-back service aces in the third set gave KU a 6-2 lead, but the Valkyries came storming back with a run of 7-3, knotting the contest at 9-all. A Ward kill sparked a burst of 8-1 over nine points, allowing the Tornado to control the set at 17-10. From that point King was able to finish the set (25-14) and the match (3-0).
