GAFFNEY, S.C. – The Converse College volleyball team participated in a tri-match with Limestone and Flagler on Saturday afternoon inside the Timken Center. A valiant effort in both matches came up short as the Valkyries fell 3-0 in each.

HOW IT HAPPENED – Game One vs. Limestone
First Set
The Saints jumped out to a solid 10-4 lead early, but Converse battled back with a 7-1 run to knot the set at 11-11. From that point the game was back-and-forth. With the score deadlocked at 20-all, Limestone used a 5-1 spurt to capture set one, 25-21.
Second Set
Limestone came out dominant in set two, racing out to a massive 16-8 lead. However, Converse did not back down and clawed its way back to take the lead at 22-20 late in the frame. Unfortunately, the Saints tallied five of the next six points to go up 2-0 in the match.
Third Set
Set three was evenly managed through the early points as Converse held a slim 13-10 lead midway through. Converse, once again, led late in the frame (22-21), but LC was able to finish the set with three straight to take the game in a sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED – Game Two vs. Flagler
First Set
Runs of 3-0 by each team opened the first set before Flagler took control of the frame (20-15). Converse battled back to trim to deficit to 22-21, but the Saints took the final three points to go ahead 1-0 in the match.
Second Set
After the two teams traded the first 20 points, Flagler took complete control with a run of 10-2, earning a 20-12 lead. The Valkyries collected the next two points, but it was not enough as Flagler finished with the final five to take a commanding 2-0 match lead.
Third Set
Flagler was in dominant form during set three, pushing out to a huge 17-4 lead. Converse chipped away at the lead and came to within 19-9, but the Saints never let up, finishing the set (25-13) and the match (3-0).
UP NEXT
Converse will return to the court on Friday, Nov. 1, traveling to Banner Elk, N.C. to face the Bobcats of Lees-McRae College. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
