HOW IT HAPPENED

Set One

Coffey opened the first set with a kill to give Converse the 1-0 lead, but Claflin battled back to take push ahead 9-7 midway through. From that point the contest was very evenly matched as the frame would see numerous ties and lead changes.

However, with the score knotted at 24-22 in favor of the Valkyries, Claflin tallied the final four points of the set to earn the 26-24 win and 1-0 match lead.

Set Two

Once again Claflin raced out to a 9-7 lead to start the frame, but Converse came storming back with five in a row to take the advantage, 12-9. That lead grew to 22-15 behind a fierce defense and the serving of Sara Grace Westmoreland.

Claflin earned the following point, but it was all for nothing as Converse finished the set with three straight, tying the match at 1-1.

Set Three

Converse jumped out to a 7-4 lead in the third set, forcing an early timeout by the Panthers. The brief hiatus was little effect to the Valkyries strong attack game as the lead ballooned the lead to 19-8.

From that point it was all academic as Converse continued to pour it on en route to the dominant 25-11 set win.

Set Four

The Valkyries picked up right where they left off in the third set, collecting six of the first seven points to start frame four. That five point advantage would follow the Valkyries the majority of the set before a crucial 6-1 run down the stretch gave Converse the set and match.

UP NEXT

The Valkyries will return to the court on Saturday, October 26 as they participate in a tri-match in Gaffney, S.C. Converse will face Conference Carolinas foe Limestone at 11 a.m. before taking on the Saints of Flagler at 1 p.m.
