Valkyries Prepared for Upcoming Season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Head coach Amy Bomar and the Converse volleyball team have announced its schedule for the 2019-20 season. This year's schedule will consist of a heavy dose of road games as well as nine home competitions. Amongst those contests will be a grueling 16-game Conference Carolinas slate.

"I am very eager to get this season started," said Bomar. "This year's team will have some key upperclassmen mixed will skilled newcomers, giving us a chance to be very competitive within the league."

The Valkyries will start the season with four matches in two days, traveling to the Queen City of Charlotte, N.C. to compete in the Queens Volleyball Fall Classic. Converse will begin the invite on Sept. 6 with a pair of games. First up will be Augusta followed by a match against host, Queens. A quick turnaround the next day will test the Valkyries against Wingate and Lander.

A six-day hiatus will put the Purple and Gold back in action as they travel to Francis Marion on Sept. 13 for a two-day quad-match. Converse will face the Patriots on day one before taking on Eckerd and UNC Pembroke the next day.

Converse will travel to face Montreat on Sept. 17 before taking part in a tri-match with Francis Marion and USC Aiken on Sept. 21 in Aiken, S.C. The next three contests will allow the Valkyries to showcase their talents in front of the home crowd for the first time on the season. Bob Jones will visit Hannah Gymnasium on Sept. 24 before Erskine kicks off Conference Carolinas play on Sept. 27. The homestand will come to a close on Sept. 28 as CC will take on Emmanuel (Ga.).

The next five conference games will see the Valkyries on the road, starting with Belmont Abbey on Oct. 1. Trips to Chowan (Oct. 4) and Barton (Oct. 5) will bring the Vals closer to home, facing North Greenville and Southern Wesleyan on Oct. 11 and 12, respectively.

Chowan (Oct. 18) and Barton (Oct. 19) will then visit Spartanburg for two key matches. The Valkyries will step out of conference on Oct. 22, traveling to face Claflin. Converse will then head to nearby Gaffney, S.C. on Oct. 26 to take on Limestone as well as Flagler in a mid-season tri-match.

November will get underway with trips to Lees-McRae (Nov. 1), King (Tenn.) (Nov. 2), and Mount Olive (Nov. 6), leading into three consecutive matches at home to end the regular season. Limestone visits Spartanburg on Nov. 9, followed by Mount Olive (Nov. 15) and Belmont Abbey (Nov. 16), representing the home and regular season finale.
