Records Fall at JDL Fast Track

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. – The Converse College indoor track and field team opened the 2018-19 season at the JDL Fast Track on Sunday, December 2. Overall, the Valkyries were able to establish three new indoor school records, as well as 13 conference qualifying marks.

"It has been a long fall and it was great for the ladies to get out and see where they were," said head coach Brandon Morton."

Serenity Hunt, last year's conference champion in the long jump, picked up where she left off, establishing a new school record with a distance of 17' 9.5", which was good enough for third overall in the event.

Teammate Bessie Reid also set a new school record in the triple jump event after hitting a mark of 36' 0.75", which landed her in fifth place during the meet. Dominique Hill captured a top-10 finish in the same event after establishing a new indoor personal-best with a distance of 34' 11".

The weight throw turned out to a great event for the Purple and Gold as three athletes were able to finish in the top-8. Shakura Wesley led the way with a school record throw of 49' 10", while finishing in second overall. Jordan Cooksey (42' 1.50") and Haley Disco (42' 0.75") tallied seventh and eighth places, respectively, while also setting new personal-bests in the event.

Kristin Frost qualified for conference in the pole vault, clearing a height of 9' 6.25". Other notable performers came from the 60m hurdle event. Dasia Sanders finished fourth overall with a stellar time of 9.25, while Daeja Belton tallied ninth with a mark of 9.46. Breyanna Brown turned in a time of 26.95 in the 200 meter race, as well as a ninth-place finish in the 60 meter dash (8.00).

"It was the best opener we have had since I have been here and shows we are ready to go into Christmas break and work on the things we didn't do so well and continue to improve upon the things we did well," concluded Morton.
