WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Sophomore Shakura Wesley of the Converse Track and Field team took home a win in the weight throw event while also setting a new program record in the same event as well as the shotput to help guide the Valkyries to a very impressive opening meet of the season.

Wesley's throw of 13.77m in the weight throw was tops on the day and now leads the conference by nine inches overall, while her distance of 10.88m in the shotput earned her a sixth-place finish overall and posted her atop the leaderboard for Converse.

Jamie Connelly continued her impressive start to her collegiate career as she was able to take home the crown in the 3k race with a time of 11:20.85, shattering the Converse program record by more than 16 seconds. Connelly also finished fourth in the mile after crossing the line at 5:41.84, good enough for fourth in program history.

Bessie Reid won the triple jump event with a distance of 10.55m, moving her into fourth place overall in the conference, while Kristin Frost continues to lead the conference in the pole vault after capturing another first-place finish this afternoon. Frost's clearance of 2.98m is also a new Valkyries program record.

Dasia Sanders ran a blazing speed of 9.23 to garner a third-place finish in the 60 meter hurdles and continues to lead the conference in that respective event.

The Valkyries will return to action on Friday, January 12 as they travel to Johnson City, Tenn. for day one of the ETSU Invite.
