HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

Barton put the pressure on the Valkyries defense early in the contest, turning in several shots on goal, but Bankston was able keep the match scoreless over the initial 20 minutes with key saves in goal.

It looked as though the game would head into the half scoreless, but the Bulldogs' Keegan tallied her first goal of the contest in the 43rd minute to give Barton the halftime lead.

Second Half

That lead quickly ballooned to 3-0 after Barton posted scores in the 53rd and 58th minute of action. Converse began to attack more but was not able to breakthrough on the scoreboard. Barton took advantage of the missed opportunities and tacked on a goal in the 69th minute to push ahead 4-0.

The Valkyries were finally able to put a spot on the board at the 83:20 mark of the half. Cumez-Ortiz took the ball just outside the top of the box and sent a pass over to Muench who struck the rock from about 25 yards out, finding the back of the net for the first time. However, that was all the scoring that would happen as Barton took the 4-1 win.

UP NEXT

Converse will return to the pitch on Saturday, September 28 as it hosts Emmanuel College in a Conference Carolinas showdown. Kickoff for that contest is scheduled for 5 p.m.
