Soccer Primed for Upcoming Season

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Head coach Kaitlyn Kerrigan and the Converse soccer team has announced its 2019-20 championship season. This year's slate will include a pair of games from members of the Peach Belt Conference as well as the South Atlantic Conference. The Valkyries will also show their strength in a grueling 11-game Conference Carolinas schedule.

"I am pleased with how hard the ladies have worked to prepare for the season", said Kerrigan. "We will have some veteran returners mixed in with key newcomers that should make us very competitive within the conference."

Converse will start the season with back-to-back road games, traveling to Lander on September 5 before visiting Harrogate, Tenn. and Lincoln Memorial on September 10. The Valkyries will then hit the home pitch for the first time on the season, playing host to Mount Olive on September 14 followed by King (Tenn.) on September 21.

A trip to Barton on September 24 brings the Purple and Gold right back to Hayden Abney Fulp Field for a duo of games versus Emmanuel (Ga.) on September 28 and non-conference opponent Shaw on October 3. The Valkyries will alternate home and away events over the next two games, starting with a short trip to North Greenville October 5 before facing Chowan in front of the home crowd on October 10.

Converse will then head into a season-long, four-match road trip over the next two weeks, beginning with Limestone on October 12. Trips to Erskine (October 16) and Southern Wesleyan (October 19) will lead into the final game of the stretch against Newberry on October 23.

Lees-McRae will visit Spartanburg on October 26 followed by Coker on October 31. The Valkyries will visit Belmont Abbey November 2 before closing out the regular season with UNC Pembroke of the PBC November 5.

"Although our schedule will be tough I believe we have what it takes to bring home some wins", concluded Kerrigan.
