Valkyries Picked Fourth In Preseason Poll

HIGH POINT, N.C. – With the season approaching quickly, the Converse women's soccer team has been selected to finish fourth in the Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches' poll as announced by the league today.

The Valkyries, who are coming off a 9-9-1 overall record and 5-6 mark in Conference Carolinas, picked up a total of 66 votes, falling just behind the Bobcats of Lees-McRae, who were picked third with 71 votes. Belmont Abbey totaled 94 votes for second and Limestone's 97 total votes, including seven first-place votes, notched it as preseason favorites.

Barton College and King University are tied for fifth with 60 votes each, while Mount Olive sits in seventh (58 votes). Southern Wesleyan (37 votes) and Erskine (25 votes) come in at eighth and ninth, respectively.

Chowan, who joins the conference as an associate member this season, tallied 19 votes for 10th place and North Greenville rounded out the list with its 18 votes.

Converse will kick off the 2017 season on Thursday, August 31, traveling to Florence, S.C. to take on the Patriots of Francis Marion University. Kickoff on the pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
