Lacrosse Falls to No. 11 Limestone

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College (4-5, 3-3 CC) lacrosse team was dealt a 20-3 defeat at the hands of visiting Limestone College (10-1, 6-0 CC) on Tuesday afternoon at Hayden Abney Fulp Field. The Saints used a 14-1 first half to cruise to the Conference Carolinas win.

Sharlize Burgos led the Valkyries with two scores and one assist, while Mercedes Dempsey added the only other goal for Converse. Myka Jones collected a team-high seven groundballs. Flore Samsi was able to tally four draw controls.

Britannie Ouimet collected the first two goals of the game, giving Limestone the early 2-0 lead. That run stretched to 10 straight before Burgos found the back of an empty net to put Converse on the board with 13:29 remaining on the clock. However, Limestone scored the final four goals of the opening period and took a 14-1 lead into the break.

That advantage ballooned to 17-1 as the Saints tacked on three more unanswered goals to begin the second period. Back-to-back scores from Dempsey and Burgos narrowed the deficit to 17-3, but Limestone collected the final three scores of the contest to take the game, 20-3.

Converse will return to action on Saturday, March 30, playing host to Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas showdown. That contest is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
