Lacrosse Falls at North Greenville

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Converse College (4-4, 3-2 CC) lacrosse team fell by the score of 19-3 to North Greenville on Friday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium. The Crusaders built a 9-2 halftime lead before running off 10-of-11 in the second half to take the Conference Carolinas win.

North Greenville scored the first two goals of the contest before Tyra Murray put the Valkyries on the board with a free position goal at the 22:40 mark of the opening period. Two more goals by NGU pushed the score to 4-1, but Mercedes Dempsey cut the deficit in half after taking a pass from Sharlize Burgos and blasting it into the back of the cage.

However, that was the last goal Converse scored in the first as the Crusaders finished the half with a 5-0 run to take a 9-2 lead into the intermission. That run continued to start the second period with North Greenville collecting the initial eight goals to push the streak to 13 unanswered.

Libby Stevens was the benefactor of a Burgos assist at the 8-minute mark, cutting the Crusader lead to 17-3. However, NGU took the last two goals of the game and ran away with the 19-3 win.

Converse will be back in action on Tuesday, March 26, hosting Limestone in a conference matchup. That contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
