Valkyries Lose to Young Harris On Senior Day

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse (3-11) Lacrosse team fell to non-conference opponent Young Harris on Friday afternoon at Fulp Field. The Mountain Lions used a balanced attack to down the Purple and Gold by the final score of 18-7.

Young Harris took an early 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals from Kendra Parenteau and Nicole Kernohan. Ashlei Alston got the Valkyries on the board with her first score of the contest at the 17:47 mark, but the Mountain Lions came back with a 4-0 run to balloon the lead to 6-2 with just under eight minutes to play in the first half.

Brittni Jones cracked the scoreboard at the 7:41 mark to cut the deficit to 6-2 before YHC scored three times in a little over three minutes to extend the lead heading into halftime, 9-3.

Three consecutive goals by the Mountain Lions to start the second half blew the game open to the tune of 12 before Jones added her second netter of the game with 20:44 remaining in regulation. A 6-1 run over the next 13-plus minutes of game time allowed Young Harris to open its biggest advantage at 18-5. The Valkyries showed fight as Alston and Jones scored on back-to-back possessions late, but it was not enough as YHC took the 18-7 victory.

Jones led the way for Converse with four goals, while Alston contributed the other three. A trio of Valkyries earned three groundballs each and Aubrie Lauderdale caused two turnovers on the afternoon. Caitlyn Johnson collected 13 saves in the net.

Converse will return to the field tomorrow afternoon as it travels to Due West, S.C. to take on the Erskine Flying Fleet. The initial draw control is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m.
