Starkes Nets Milestone In Victory Over Hawks

MURFREESBORO, N.C. - The Converse Lacrosse team kept their postseason hopes alive with a 13-7 victory over Chowan on the road in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Laura Starkes scored four goals and three assists to lead the Valkyries with seven points.  Starkes registered her 100th career goal.  Starkes becomes the fourth player in program history to hit the 100 goal plateau.  The senior is the first player in program history to record 100 goals and 50 assists.  She also became the all-time points leader during the contest.

Aubrie Lauderdale scored five goals, while Brittni Jones and Elizabeth Gabriele netted two.  Gabriele and Kasey Halodik tallied two assists each.

Myka Jones picked up the win in net allowing seven goals and recorded five saves.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Half:

Converse jetted out to an early 1-0 lead just 39 seconds into the contest with Elizabeth Gabriele finding Laura Starkes for the goal.

After conceding a goal, Aubrie Lauderdale found the back of the net off a pass from Kasey Halodik.  Chowan would tie things once again at 2-2.

Converse would end the half on a 6-0 run to lead 8-2 at the break.  Brittni Jones started the run with an unassited goal.  Aubrie Lauderdale scored her second goal of the contest off a pass from Laura Starkes.

Kasey Halodik found Brittni Jones for the 5-2 advantage.  Back-to-back unassisted goals by Laura Starkes continued the run.

Laura Starkes found Aubrie Lauderdale for her first half hat-trick with 11 seconds remaining in the half to lead at the break 8-2.

2nd Half:

Chowan scored two goals in the first two minutes of the half, putting Converse on their heels.  Elizabeth Gabriele found the back of the net on a free position goal during the spurt.

Converse saw their lead expand to 11-4 midway through the second half before Chowan scored three straight to cut it to 11-7.

Aubrie Lauderdale scored to end the run off a pass from Laura Starkes to keep the distance at 12-7.  Starkes would find the back of the net with 39 seconds left in regulation to record her 100th tally.
