Golf Adds Three to Recruiting Class

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Head Coach Patti McGowan of the Converse College golf team is pleased to announce the signing of three student-athletes who will participate for the Valkyries starting in the fall of 2019.

Katie Spurling, a native of nearby Moore, S.C., has been an integral part of the James F. Byrnes High School team for the past six years. Spurling was named to the All-Region team in 2018, and was one of a select few juniors girls to participate in the North/South All-Star matches the same year. Katie helped lead the Rebels to an Upper State Championship during the 2016 campaign.

Sydney Grimes comes to Converse from Suffolk, Va. where she attends the Isle of Wight Academy. Sydney has been a valued member of the golf team for six years, and is now ranked No. 1 statewide within the IWA's VISAA. Over the course of her high school career, Grimes has been named the Most Valuable Player in multiple years as well as earning All-State and All-Conference honors.

Sara Hall is from Mountain Top, Pa., and attends Crestwood High School. Hall has been a member of the CHS boy's golf team for four years, as the Comets do not a girl's golf program. Sara is ranked No. 6 out of 14 varsity golf team members on Crestwood's "AAA" team. Hall has won two Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour 1st place medals during 2018 as well as a pair of 2nd place medals in 2016 and 2017.
