SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College basketball team had a tough home loss against the Mount Olive Trojans. The Valkyries dropped the contest by a final score of 59-42.

Redshirt Freshman Alexis McMillian (Bishopville, S.C.) led the Vals with 12 points in only 19 minutes of action.

Sophomore Nigeria Davis (Newberry, S.C.) had the sole double-double of the game. She finished with 11 points and 11 rebounds, going 3-4 on the free throw line.

Senior Abigail Lewis (Savannah, G.A.) had 8 points and was 100% from the free throw line.

Converse had the higher free throw percentage at 64.3%.
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
Both teams were almost scoreless for the first full three minutes of the game until the Trojans hit a three-point shot. Davis quickly responded for the Purple and Gold by making a layup and was fouled on the play. The made free throw tied the score of the competition (3-3).
The rest of the quarter saw points scored for the Vals by Davis on a jumpshot, and a free throw by McMillian. Mount Olive outscored Converse 11-6.
SECOND QUARTER
Both teams opened the second quarter in the same fashion. The Trojans hit a three and Davis replied shortly after for the Valkyries with a layup and another foul on the play. The free throw attempt was good and brought the score to 14-9.
Converse held off Mount Olive for four minutes and came within two on a jumpshot made by Davis and a free throw by McMillian (14-12). For the rest of the quarter the Vals saw a jumpshot by Anna King (Summerville, S.C.) and a three pointer by Ellen Nardella (Myrtle Beach, S.C.). The Trojans held the lead going into half-time, 30-17.
THIRD QUARTER
Mount Olive started the second-half with a quick layup and the Lewis for the Purple and Gold responded a minute later with a layup (32-19).
A minute later Davis was fouled on a layup and went one for two from the line (32-20). Converse's remaining four points of the quarter were scored by McMillian on a layup and a jumpshot. The Trojans were up on the Vals 44-24 by the end of the quarter.
FOURTH QUARTER
McMillian continued her scoring for the Valkyries and opened the quarter with a jumpshot (44-26). Mount Olive quickly responded with a layup and brought the score to 46-26.
With shots made by Lewis, McMillian, Nardella, and freshman Ivy Collins (Myrtle Beach, S.C.), the Purple and Gold couldn't pull out the win and fell to the Trojans 59-42.

Converse will return to the court on Wednesday, February 20 as it plays host to King in a Conference Carolinas showdown. Tip-off for that contest is scheduled for 6 p.m.
