Valkyries Post Huge Wire-To-Wire Win Against Barry

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - Keocia Walker's three with 1:06 remaining in the contest sealed the win for Converse, as the Valkyries basketball defeated Barry 54-50 in the final contest of the Bahama House Classic on Saturday afternoon.

Erin Horne led the Valkyries with 15 points, seven boards, five assists, and two steals.  Horne needs four steals to tie the all-time career steals record. Horne was also named to the Bahama House Classic All-Tournament team.

Kassidy Moorhouse chipped in with 13 points (3-4 threes) with eight rebounds.  Hannah Anderson and Brianna James finished with seven points.  Anderson hauled in a career-high nine rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Quarter

Converse started off the contest on a 14-2 run capped off by an Erin Horne jumper midway through the first quarter.  Horne started the run with a layup just 46 seconds into the contest.  After a pair of free throws by Barry, Horne connected again on a layup. Kassidy Moorhouse would knock down a three followed by Hannah Anderson with a jumper in the paint.  Kassidy Moorhouse would stretch the lead to double-figures, 12-2, after connecting from distance again.

Barry went on a 7-0 run to bring the contest to within five, 14-9.  Tatum Boggs dialed up a trey to end the run.

The Valkyries led 17-11 at the end of the quarter.

2nd Quarter

Brianna James started the scoring for the Valkyries in the quarter with a short jumper.  Tatum Boggs and Kassidy Moorhouse connected on deep jumpers to keep the scoring in the Valkyries' favor.

Barry cut the deficit down to four, 23-19, after hitting from deep, but two freebies at the stripe by Bri James and a turnaround jumper by Jada Black kept the Bucs at bay.

Converse ended the half on a 5-2 run thanks to Hannah Anderson going 1-2 from the line and a layup.  Barry was holding for the final shot of the half until Keocia Walker swiped the pass and went coast-to-coast for the layup before the buzzer.

The Valkyries went into the locker room with a 32-21 advantage. 

3rd Quarter

Converse and Barry battled back-and-forth throughout the quarter.  Erin Horne started the scoring with a jumper with 8:21 left in the quarter.  Horne knocked down two freebies to keep the Valkyries' lead at nine, 36-27.  

Bri James knocked down two from the charity stripe to push the lead back to double-digits.

Barry went on a 9-0 run to cut the deficit to 38-36 with 4:12 remaining forcing a Converse timeout.  Kassidy Moorhouse gave the Valkyries some breathing room dialing up a long distance bucket.

With 1:20 remaining in the quarter, Barry would once again cut the Converse lead down to one possession at 43-41.  Moorhouse hit a jumper to push the lead back out to four, 45-41.  Erin Horne made a jumper to end the quarter with the Valkyries leading 47-41.

4th Quarter

Erin Horne knocked down a jumper and went 1-2 from the line with 7:23 remaining in the contest to make it 50-43.  A 5-0 run cut the deficit to 50-48 midway through the quarter.

Both teams could not find the net until Keocia Walker knocked down a clutch three with 1:06 left to seal the victory for Converse.

Barry made a layup with 23 seconds remaining to keep the game within reach.  Bri James went 1-2 from the line to make it 54-50.

With nine seconds left Barry missed a three to give the ball back to Converse for the win.

Converse has the rest of the 2016 calendar year off before returning to action on January 3 against Mount Olive in Conference Carolinas action.
