Eagles Defense Stymies Converse On Road

DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. - In the opening contest of the Bahama House Classic, the host Embry-Riddle handed the Valkyries a 79-48 loss.

Brianna James led the Valkyries with 18 points off 7-11 shooting from the floor.  Tatum Boggs and Erin Horne chipped in with eight and six points respectively.

Shakori Jennings-Shuler hauled in six rebounds.  Embry-Riddle forced 23 Valkyries' turnovers leading to 32 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Quarter

Both teams started off slow until Erin Horne cracked the scoreless tie with a floater in the paint for the early 2-0 advantage.

Embry-Riddle found their groove shortly after going on a 10-0 forcing a Converse timeout.  Keocia Walker was able to halt the run connecting from deep with 5:03 remaining in the quarter to cut it to 10-5.

Another mini-run by the Eagles pushed their lead to 18-5 before two from the stripe by Brianna James and a jumper by Erin Horne fought off the run.

The Eagles finished the quarter on a 7-0 run to take a 25-9 advantage into the second stanza.

2nd Quarter

Embry-Riddle would keep the momentum going in the second quarter as they started on a 7-2 run to lead 32-11.  Bri James tallied the only bucket during the run.

Bri James would end the run with 4:13 left with a jumper.  ERAU would counter with a trey at the other end of the floor to push their lead to 22, 35-13.

Paige Johnson would start to cut into the deficit with a tough jumper followed by a layup by Shakori Jennings-Shuler.  Briana Hill would connect on 1-2 from the stripe for the final points of the half for the Valkyries.

Embry-Riddle headed into the break with a 40-18 lead.

3rd Quarter

Embry-Riddle outscored the Valkyries 22-10 in the quarter.  The first five minutes of the quarter saw the Eagles with a 10-2 run as Hannah Anderson posted the bucket.

The Eagles saw their lead swell to 56-20 before Bri James knocked down back-to-back threes. James would hit a jumper for the final bucket of the quarter as the Eagles jumped out to a 62-28 lead heading into the final 10 minutes of play.

4th Quarter

Bri James started the scoring for the Valkyries in the quarter with a jumper just a minute into action.  Hannah Anderson would connect on a short jumper to cut the deficit to 65-32 with 7:38 to play.

Erin Horne would end a short run with a layup but the Eagles would answer on the other end to keep their lead at 71-34.

Tatum Boggs would dial up a long distance shot with 4:04 left on the clock.  Tiffani Riggen would follow suit with a trey of her own, while Bri James would make a layup but missed the and-one free throw to cut the deficit to 73-43.
