Converse Falls To Barton In League Action

WILSON, N.C. - The Converse Basketball team dropped a Conference Carolinas match-up against Barton on Saturday afternoon on the road 73-56.

Tatum Boggs led the Valkyries with a career-high 16 points off the bench connecting on three from long distance. Boggs chipped in with four rebounds. Jada Black and Hannah Anderson hauled in six and five rebounds respectively.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Quarter

Barton started the contest with a 6-0 run before Keocia Walker ended the early run with a layup. Walker would tack on two more free throws.  Brianna James cut the deficit to three early after connecting on a trifecta with 7:08 remaining in the quarter.

Bri James hit a small jumper with 5:56 to go making it 12-9 in favor of the Bulldogs before another 6-0 run allowed Barton to double up the Valkyries.  Hannah Anderson ended the run with a triple with 29 seconds left.

Barton led 20-13 after the first stanza.

2nd Quarter

The Bulldogs opened the quarter with a 10-0 run to lead 30-13 with 5:35 left in the half.  Erin Horne knocked down two freebies before Tatum Boggs ended the run with a jumper.

Another mini-run by the Bulldogs pushed the advantage to 36-17 before Boggs knocked down a triple and a jumper ended the run.  Jada Black finished the scoring for the Valkyries in the half with a layup.

Converse trailed at the half 41-24.

3rd Quarter

Barton would continue their runs opening the third quarter on a 12-2 advantage to push their lead out to 53-26 with 6:46 left in the third quarter.

Keocia Walker ended the run with a layup.  Tatum Boggs hit from deep at the 5:44 mark of the quarter off the assist from Dominique Hill.

The Bulldogs led 63-39 heading into the final 10 minutes of action.

4th Quarter

With under eight minutes to go in the contest, Kassidy Moorhouse started an 11-0 run with a layup.  Hannah Anderson chipped in with a free throw.  Back-to-back threes by Tiffani Riggen and Tatum Boggs followed by a Riggen jumper cut the deficit to 65-50 with 3:09 left.

The Valkyries were unable to close the gap any closer for the remainder of the contest.

The Valkyries travel to Daytona Beach, Fla. for the Bahama House Classic hosted by Embry-Riddle.  Converse will take on host Embry-Riddle on December 16 followed by Barry on December 17.
