Slow Start Hinders Valkyries Against Patriots

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Converse Basketball dropped a non-conference game against Francis Marion in the final game of the Courtyard Classic, 65-45.

Kassidy Moorhouse led the Valkyries on the offensive end with 12 points off 4-6 shooting from the floor, knocking down two treys.  Keocia Walker posted double-figures with 10 points and added five assists.

Keocia Walker was named to the All-Tournament Team.

HOW IT HAPPENED

1st Quarter

The Valkyries started slow offensively hitting two shots in the first eight minutes of action as the Patriots opened up a 14-4 lead.  Keo Walker and Erin Horne scored for the Valkyries.

Dominique Hill and Paige Johnson would chip in a free throw each to end the quarter.  Francis Marion led 21-6 at the break.

2nd Quarter

After an early bucket from FMU, Converse went on a 17-2 run with a fastbreak basket by Kassidy Moorhouse off the dish from Keo Walker.  Walker would knock down a triple and a short jumper by Hannah Anderson sparked the run.

FMU would score the lone basket during the run at the 6:16 mark before Keo Walker made a layup followed by back-to-back threes by Paige Johnson and Kassidy Moorhouse cutting it to 25-18.

Moorhouse would knock down a deep jumper to cut the deficit to 25-23 with 3:43 left in the half.

The Patriots would extend their lead with a 7-0 run of their own before Kassidy Moorhouse knocked down her second triple of the quarter.

The Valkyries went into the break down 32-26 after outscoring FMU 20-11 in the quarter.

3rd Quarter

Coming out of the half, the Patriots used a 22-8 quarter to push out in front 54-34.  FMU started with a 9-2 run forcing a Converse timeout.

Hannah Anderson would score four points in the quarter for the Valkyries.

4th Quarter

The scoring slowed down for both teams as Converse and Francis Marion notched 11 points each in the quarter.

Dominique Hill completed a three-point play with 2:46 left in the contest. Keocia Walker would hit a free throw followed by a pair of free throws by Kassidy Moorhouse to complete the scoring for the Valkyries.
