Inaugural Basketball Elite Camp Successful

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Head basketball coach Dean Walsh hosted Converse's inaugural Elite Camp at the beginning of August featuring 11 states with over 40 campers.

The Elite camp showed campers what it would take to be a college athlete. Each camper went through a two and a half day of rigorous drills and scrimmages with the Converse coaching staff and returning players.

"Camp was a huge success," stated Coach Walsh. "There was a lot of talent from the upcoming 2017-2020 classes. It was a tremendous opportunity for us to show off what Converse and Valkyries Athletics has to offer. We are known for our academics, and this camp allowed us to share the vision and reputation of where Converse Athletic Director Joy Couch is leading the department."

The camp reached passed the Upstate and the Carolinas with campers coming from: Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Ohio, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

A camper from Florida stated: "It was an awesome experience and learned so much. I love the Converse campus."

Virginia camper: "The camp showed a lot of attention to detail from the drills to the campus tour. The campus was gorgeous and I was able to learn a lot from the Converse coaching staff."

"It was the first time that Converse produced an Elite Camp of this caliber and I look forward to the continued success and making this an annual event," said Walsh.
