Valkyries Basketball Gearing Up For Strong 2016-17 Slate

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Converse Valkyries Basketball team and head coach Dean Walsh released the 2016-17 schedule on Tuesday afternoon. The Valkyries are coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history.

The Valkyries open up with three Division I exhibitions on the road playing Charleston Southern on November 5 followed by nearby USC Upstate six days later and wrapping up with Gardner-Webb on November 16.

The Purple and Gold with host the Courtyard Classic on November 18 and 19 featuring two Peach Belt Conference schools and a CIAA school.  Converse will play Lander on opening day and Francis Marion on the final day.

Converse will head on the road for five of the final six contests to round out the 2016 year. The Valkyries will head to Banner Elk, N.C. to face Lees-McRae in the Conference Carolinas opener before the Thanksgiving holiday followed by a return to Hannah Gym to square off with new Division II member Southern Wesleyan on November 29.

The Valkyries will wrap up 2016 on the road against Belmont Abbey and Barton in conference play before heading south for the Bahama House Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.  Converse will face host Embry-Riddle and Barry on December 16-17.

To open up the 2017 year, Converse faces three straight road contests traveling to Mount Olive, Erskine, and Emmanuel.

Converse will face Belmont Abbey, Lees-McRae and Barton in return trips as the Valkyries will play their first home games of 2017 in Hannah Gym. The match-up against Lees-McRae on January 14 is the first Daddy/Daughter Game. The Daddy/Daughter contest will allow a father and his daughter to get into the game for free.

Then, Converse will travel to rival Limestone and King before returning home for a four-game homestand against: Emmanuel, Erskine, Limestone, and Mount Olive.

The Valkyries will hit the road for the final time of the regular season facing Southern Wesleyan on February 7 followed by Pfeiffer and North Greenville on the 11th and 15th respectively.

The Purple and Gold will wrap up the regular season with three straight home contests.  Converse will welcome King on February 18 followed by Pfeiffer three days later and North Greenville for senior night on February 24.

Converse will look to make a push for their first Conference Carolinas Tournament bid since the 2008-09 season where they obtained their first ever bid.
