Erskine Steals Win From Valkyries In Final Minutes

DUE WEST, S.C.- With the Valkyries down by one with two minutes remaining, Erskine goes perfect at the charity stripe to steal the win away from Converse 72-64 in Conference Carolinas action on Monday evening.

Converse (2-12, 1-9) was led by freshman Brianna James (Spartanburg, S.C.) scoring in double-figures for the 10th time this season with 19 points.  Logan Hollis (Spartanburg, S.C.) posted her second double-double of the season posting 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Kassidy Moorhouse (Anderson, S.C.) chipped in with 11 points.

Erskine (5-9, 5-4) started off the contest on a roll going on an 8-3 run. Before Khrystal Ellis (Greenville, S.C.) stopped the run with a lay-up.  Converse would take the lead at 11-9 after a Bri James jumper.  Ellis converted an and-one opportunity to give the Valkyries the 14-11 lead heading into the second quarter.

Converse would keep the lead heading into the break leading for the second straight contest.  The Valkyries led 30-23.  

Erskine came out of the break going on a 10-0 run to take the lead 33-31.  Bri James ended the Fleet run to tie things at 33-all.  The Valkyries would regain the lead with 3:50 after Erin Horne (Orlando, Fla.) connected on a short jumper. Converse took a 51-46 advantage heading into the final quarter.

The final quarter featured two ties and three lead changes.  Erskine would take the lead with 3:19 remaining and would not allow the Valkyries to tie or regain the lead.  Converse came as close at 62-63 with 2:11 remaining after two Moorhouse freebies.  The Valkyries would go 1-6 from the floor to end the contest, while Erskine's Hendrix finished the contest scoring the final nine points.

Converse returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 23 against Conference Carolinas foe Barton with tip-off at 2pm.
