James' Career Night Not Enough Against Falcons

MISENHEIMER, N.C.- Bri James scored a career-high 28 points but was not enough as the Valkyries dropped a Conference Carolinas contest on Wednesday night against Pfeiffer 78-68.

Converse (2-10, 1-7) was led by Brianna James (Spartanburg, S.C.) scoring the fourth most points in program history and second most as a freshman.  James went 11-21 from the floor which ties her for the most made field goals in a single game and most by a freshman.  James knocked down four triples which is the second most made in program history.

Pfeiffer (5-7, 4-4) doubled up Converse in the first quarter taking a 20-10 advantage after the first ten minutes to keep ahold of the lead for the rest of the contest.  With the game deadlocked at 6-6 midway through the first quarter, Pfeiffer's Bickford knocked down back-to-back treys to give the Falcons the 12-6 advantage.  Bri James knocked down two jumpers to cut it to 14-10 with 1:57 before Pfeiffer ended the quarter on a 6-0 run.  James had eight of the Valkyries 10 points.

The Falcons jumped out to their largest lead of the first half after a made lay-up with 5:47 remaining in the second quarter (34-19).  Logan Hollis (Spartanburg, S.C.) knocked down two freebies followed by an Ashley Salgado (Ottumwa, Iowa) lay-up and another Hollis basket to cut it down to an 11 point contest.  Pfeiffer went into the locker room up 40-29.

Hollis finished with 13 points and four rebounds.  Yashee Johnson (West Columbia, S.C.) missed out on her second double-double of the season with 10 points and nine rebounds.  Johnson had three assists and four steals.  Ashley Salgado, Khrystal Ellis (Greenville, S.C.) and Kassidy Moorhouse (Anderson, S.C.) chipped in four points each.

The second half featured the Valkyries leading 39-38.  Converse shot 41.2% in the second half and 39.4% for the contest while Pfeiffer shot 45.2% for the game.

Hannah Anderson (Savannah, Ga.) hit a jumper and had a rejection in four minutes of action.

Converse returns to the court on Saturday against undefeated Limestone at 2pm.
