Valkyries Struggle Holding Lead Against Erskine

DUE WEST, S.C.- Converse couldn't hold double-digit lead down the stretch, as Valkyries struggle shooting from floor and line against Erskine on Tuesday evening falling 62-49.

Converse (1-10, 0-8 CC) falls for the 10th straight game and first time the Valkyries have blown a double-digit lead.  Converse led 40-30 after Margo Dill (Hilton Head, S.C.) hit a short jumper with 12:38 remaining in the second half.  Erskine (8-7, 6-3 CC) started chipping away at the Valkyrie lead before tying things at 45-all with 5:37 remaining.  Converse down the stretch faltered at the charity stripe and floor being outscored 17-4.

Dill led the Valkyries posting her first double-double of the season scoring 15 points and grabbing 12 boards.  Logan Hollis (Spartanburg, S.C.) recorded 10 boards and eight points.  Jakyra Washington (Durham, N.C.) tallied eight points.  Erin Horne (Orlando, Fla.) grabbed eight caroms.

Converse and Erskine traded blows in the first half keeping the score close throughout before heading into the locker room with a three point Erskine lead.

The Valkyries started off aggressive getting to the line and putting the Flying Fleet into foul trouble early.  Converse went to the line a season-high 36 times but converted only 20 of those.  Struggling at the stripe translated over into other areas of the offensive end shooting a season-low 22% (13-59) from the floor.  Erskine did not shoot the lights out either shooting 29.8% from the floor but scored half of their points at the stripe in 45 attempts.

Converse outrebounded Erskine 56-53 grabbing 26 offensive rebounds.  Both squads turned the ball over 26 times.

Converse hosts Mount Olive, Saturday January 17 at 2pm.
