Converse Softball Picks Up Conference Split Against Lions

DUNCAN, S.C. - The Converse Softball team rebounded from the game one set back to pick up the split in the night cap against Emmanuel in Conference Carolinas action on Saturday afternoon.  Converse dropped the first contest 5-0 and defeated Emmanuel 3-0 in game two.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Converse picks up their third Conference Carolinas win of the season while earning only one in their inaugural season.

Marissa Steadman pitched the Valkyries to victory in the nightcap with the shutout win scattering seven hits and racking up six punchouts.

Mckayla Davis and Marissa Steadman picked up two hits each in the twinbill.  Bri Putnam recorded a RBI double in the second game.

Elizabeth Aguilar and Shelby Bullock also recorded RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Converse 0, Emmanuel 5

Brett Harvey singled to left center for the first hit of the contest for either team.  Harvey advanced to second on a wild pitch but was stranded.

Converse threatened again in the bottom of the second after two walks by Anna Bennett and Savanna Fain with one out.  Kelsie Land pushed the runners into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt.  Bri Putnam hit a rope to left for the final out of the inning.

Kaybriana Spalding pitched her way out of a jam in the top of the third.  After surrendering two hits in the inning and putting runners on the corners, Spalding posted a groundout to end the inning.

Emmanuel cracked the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning to lead 1-0.  The Lions used a bases loaded error to scratch across the opening run.

The Lions added two runs in the top of the sixth on a double in the gap.  Emmanuel would add insurance runs in the top of the seventh as a runner scored on a passed ball and a RBI single to lead 5-0.

Game Two: Converse 3, Emmanuel 0

Marissa Steadman allowed a single in the first inning but settled in striking out the side.

Elizabeth Aguilar reached via the walk followed by Tristan Harvey reaching after being hit by a pitch to start off the bottom of the first.  After a double steal by Aguilar and Harvey, Converse had runners in scoring position with no outs.  Emmanuel pitcher closed the door with three straight strikeouts.

Both teams struggled to put a successful rally together through the first three innings.  Marissa Steadman reached on an infield single and was pushed to second after Tristan Harvey pushed a bunt through the left side of the infield.  Converse squandered the rally with two more strikeouts.

The Valkyries were able to string together a rally in the bottom of the fourth.  Mckayla Davis hit a blooper up the middle to start the rally.  Anna Bennett pushed the runner to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Bri Putnam laced a double in the left center gap to push across the first run of the contest.

Shelby Bullock reached on an infield single allowing Bri Putnam to come across to score for the 2-0 advantage.  Bullock put herself in scoring position after swiping second base.  Elizabeth Aguilar hit a single to center to bring home Bullock for the 3-0 cushion.

Emmanuel had a chance to break up the shutout in the top of the sixth after putting runners on the corners.  Marissa Steadman slammed the door shut with a punchout.

Converse would take the nightcap 3-0.
