Errors Prove Costly In DH Loss To Mount Olive

DUNCAN, S.C. - The Converse Softball team came up short against Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader falling 4-2 in game one and 8-2 in the nightcap.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Elizabeth Aguilar led the charge at the plate going 5-7.  Brett Harvey picked up three hits and two RBI.

Hannah Boring recorded a RBI double in the nightcap and added two walks in the first game.

Marissa Steadman picked up the loss in the first game allowing four runs off seven hits.  Steadman struck out five.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Converse 2, Mount Olive 4

After a quick inning by Marissa Steadman to start the contest, the Valkyries broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the first inning.

Elizabeth Aguilar started off the inning with a base hit.  Tristan Harvey switched places with Aguilar on a fielder's choice.  Hannah Boring drew a walk and pushed Harvey to third on a wild pitch.  Brett Harvey reached on a fielder's choice as T. Harvey scored on the play to give Converse the 1-0 lead.

Converse had a chance to extend their lead in the bottom of the second.  Marissa Steadman reached after the strikeout thanks to a throwing error by the catcher.  Steadman moved to second after Elizabeth Aguilar drew a walk.  Tristan Harvey moved Steadman and Aguilar up 60 feet on a sacrifice bunt.  A strikeout ended the threat.

Mount Olive was able to get their offense going in the top of the fourth inning posting two runs on three hits in the inning to lead 2-1.

Converse answered the call in the bottom of the fifth to knot things at 2-2.  Hannah Boring started the rally with a two out walk.  Brett Harvey singled up the middle followed by a RBI double by Anna Bennett to score Boring.

UMO regained the lead in the top of the sixth for a 3-2 lead.  The inning started with a hit by pitch.  The Trojans moved over the runners before a fielder's choice allowed the run to score.

In the bottom of the sixth, Kelsie Land started the inning with a walk.  Marissa Steadman reached via a fielding error.  Elizabeth Aguilar singled to right field but the runner was thrown out trying to score on the play to keep UMO in the lead 3-2.

The Trojans added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to lead 4-2.

Brett Harvey and Shelby Bullock picked up hits in the bottom seventh but were unable to push across a run.

Game Two: Converse 2, Mount Olive 8

Mount Olive tripled in the top of the first but back-to-back pop ups ended the threat.

Elizabeth Aguilar singled to right center to start the bottom half of the inning.  Hannah Boring pushed Aguilar to second on the walk but was stranded on the bases.

The Valkyries were able to crack the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third on five hits to produce two runs.  Elizabeth Aguilar picked up her second hit of the contest with a single to center.  Tristan Harvey pushed a bunt through the right side. Hannah Boring doubled down the third base line bringing home Aguilar and sent Harvey to third.

Brett Harvey followed with a single to center to bring home Tristan Harvey for the 2-0 lead.  Anna Bennett singled in the inning but an infield fly and ground out ended the rally.

UMO countered in the top of the fifth with five runs to take the lead 5-2.  Three walks and three hits led to the Trojans' runs.

The Trojans added to their lead in the sixth scoring three more runs off four hits and three Converse errors to move out to an 8-2 advantage.
