Converse Softball Wraps Up Mid-South Classic

DUNCAN, S.C. - In the final day of the Mid-South Classic at Tyger River Park, the Converse Softball team dropped a pair of contests, 12-0 (5) to St. Joseph's and 9-0 to Wingate.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORES

Marissa Steadman, Anna Bennett, Ashton Coker, Brett Harvey and Mckayla Davis recorded a hit each in the contests.  Elizabeth Aguilar posted two walks, while Steadman tallied one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game One: Converse 0, St. Joseph's 12

Converse was unable to get the bats going as the Valkyries posted one hit and one walk.

The Pumas scored two runs in the bottom of the first on a two-run home run.

Ashton Coker recorded the lone hit in the top of the second inning on a knock to center field.

St. Joseph's added one in the second and eight in the third to take a 11-0 lead.

Elizabeth Aguilar drew a walk in the top of the fourth inning but was the final base runner for the Valkyries in the contest.

Game Two: Converse 0, Wingate 9

Marissa Steadman started off the game with a walk before caught stealing attempting to swipe second.

Wingate would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo homerun.

Brett Harvey singled to short in the bottom of the second for the Valkyries' first hit of the contest.

Hannah Boring kept Wingate at bay from the circle until the top of the fourth when Wingate posted another solo shot for a 2-0 advantage.

Elizabeth Aguilar drew a walk in the bottom of the fourth inning but was turned away in the inning.

The Bulldogs added five runs in the top of the fifth inning and two more in the top of the seventh to take a 9-0 lead.

Marissa Steadman singled in the sixth and was stranded at second.

Anna Bennett singled to right field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh and moved to second on an error.  Mckayla Davis singled up the middle to put runners on the corners but Converse was kept off the scoreboard in the contest falling 9-0.

UP NEXT
Converse will return home on Wednesday, March 1 against non-conference foe Montreat.  The doubleheader starts at 1pm at the Tyger River Stadium.
