Johnson Adds 11 To Softball Program

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Coming off their inaugural season, head coach Christy Johnson and the Converse Softball program are excited to announce the addition of 11 Valkyries for the 2016-17 season.

"We are excited to build off of what we accomplished last season," said Coach Johnson. "These 11 student-athletes will be valuable additions to the '16-'17 roster. We look forward to the upcoming season."

Elizabeth Aguilar
Aguilar is a junior transfer from Trinidad State Junior College. The middle infielder brings a solid bat to the lineup. The Peoria, Arizona native will bring strength to the junior class.


Mariah Blackmon
Blackmon joins the Valkyries as a first baseman and power hitter. She is a four-time Max Prep Player of the game and received the Marine Corps Distinguished Athlete award while in high
school. Blackmon is a native of Brandon, Florida.


Hannah Boring
Boring, a Wilmington, North Carolina native, joins the Valkyries as a pitcher. While adding depth to the pitching lineup, she will also look to earn a spot in the hitting lineup, as well.


Ashton Coker
Coker, a Hollywood, South Carolina native, is a first and third baseman. She received All-
Region honors in 2013 and 2014, and was a member of the All-State Rookie Team in 2013. Coker will bring offensive and defensive depth to the Valkyrie lineup.


Kayla Gilfillan
Gilfillan, a Blacksburg, South Carolina native, joins the Valkyries as a catcher and an outfielder.
Gilfillan will add depth to the roster at several different positions.


Brianna Harrill
Harrill, a high school standout, will join the Valkyries from Forest City, North Carolina. She
received All-Conference honors four times, All-District honors three times, and All-State honors
three times in her high school career. Harrill looks to make an immediate impact on the pitching
staff.


Brett Harvey
Harvey is a sophomore transfer from Bossier Parish Community College. The Anacoco,
Louisiana native is a versatile catcher/utility. Harvey received All-District and All-state honors
while in high school and will add depth to both the offensive and defensive line-up.


Alex Hibbitts
Hibbitts joins the Valkyries from Campobello, South Carolina. She received All-Region honors
twice in her high school career. Hibbitts brings a heavy bat to the offensive lineup and will add
hitting depth.


Kayce Shelton
Shelton is a utility player from Greer, South Carolina. She received NFCA All-American Scholar
Athlete honors in 2015. With her ability to play several positions, including third base and outfield, she will add versatility to the Valkyrie lineup.


Kaybriana Spalding
Spalding will be joining the Valkyrie pitching staff. The Lexington, South Carolina native was
recognized as the Weisiger Scholar Athlete. She looks to make an immediate impact on both the
hitting and pitching lineup.


Courtney Walls
Walls is a pitcher and utility player. The Cumming, Georgia native was the recipient of the
Coach's Award while in high school. She will add pitching depth to the Valkyrie lineup.


The Valkyries have nine returners to go with the 11 newcomers as Converse hits the field on October 8th for fall competition. Converse will host USC-Salkehatchie at Tyger River Park in Duncan.
