Errors Hand Lions Doubleheader Sweep

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, GA.- The Converse softball team dropped a pair of Conference Carolinas games to Emmanuel on Sunday afternoon, 8-0 (6) and 9-1 (6).

Converse (6-28, 1-17) was led offensively by Maddison Lukens (Chandler, Ariz.) picking up three hits and a RBI.  Bri Putnam (Chesnee, S.C.), Marissa Steadman (Pauline, S.C.) and Tristan Harvey (Anacoco, La.) recorded one hit apiece.  Kelsie Land (Keller, Texas) picked up three walks on the afternoon.

The Valkyries take on Conference Carolinas foe North Greenville, Saturday April 16 against North Greenville.  First pitch is at 1pm at Tyger River Championship Stadium.

Game One: Converse 0, Emmanuel 8 (6 innings):

Emmanuel opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning with a four spot.  The Lions were aided by two Valkyrie errors.

The Lions tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on two more errors to take a 6-0 lead.

Converse was unable to get the bats rolling as the Lion's pitching staff posted 14 strikeouts in game one.

Game Two: Converse 1, Emmanuel 9 (6 innings):

Converse started off game two scratching across the first run of the night cap. Savanna Fain (Inman, S.C.) started off the inning with a walk.  Marissa Steadman pushed her to second on a sac bunt.  An infield single by Tristan Harvey put runners on the corner for Maddy Lukens.  Lukens delivered an RBI single to centerfield for the early 1-0 lead.

Emmanuel was held off the scoreboard until the bottom of the third when the Lions capitalized off a Valkyrie miscue to post three runs to take the 3-1 lead.

The Lions added another run in the bottom of the fourth and five more runs in the bottom of the sixth on two Converse errors to take the doubleheader.
