Valkyries' Bats Silent In Twinbill Against Pfeiffer

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- Converse softball had a tough time at the plate in the doubleheader loss to Pfeiffer on Tuesday afternoon at Tyger River has the Valkyries recorded two hits and a walk.  Pfeiffer took the twinbill 8-0 (5), and 14-0 (5).  Converse falls to 6-16 on the season and 1-7 in Conference Carolinas play.  Pfeiffer improved to 21-13 on the season and 7-3 in league play.

Bri Putnam (Chesnee, S.C.) and Tristan Harvey (Anacoco, La.) picked up one hit apiece.  Anna Bennett (Fulton, Md.) drew a walk in game two.

Marissa Steadman (Roebuck, S.C.) took the loss in game one despite posting her second double-figure strikeout game of the season with 10 punchouts.

Converse heads on the road on Thursday, March 31 to face Conference Carolinas foe Emmanuel in a doubleheader.

Game One: Converse 0, Pfeiffer 8 (5 innings)

Pfeiffer started off the game with a triple over the head of the centerfielder.  Marissa Steadman shut the door stranding the runner at third by striking out the side by freezing two.

The Falcons cracked the scoreboard in the top of the second on a Valkyrie miscue on a failed pickoff attempt.  Steadman recorded the first six outs via strikeout.

Pfeiffer posted three more runs in the top of the third inning on another miscue followed by a two run homer to put the Falcons up 4-0.

Pfeiffer tacked on four more runs in the top of the fourth starting the inning off with a long ball to jump out to an 8-0.

Tristan Harvey picked up the only hit for Converse in the bottom of the fourth inning on a base knock through the left side of the infield.

Converse was unable to string anything together as Pfeiffer took game one 8-0.

Game Two: Converse 0, Pfeiffer 14 (5 innings)

Pfeiffer jumped on the scoreboard in a hurry in the top of the first inning posting five runs off six hits.  Four of the Falcon runs came with two outs.

Maddison Lukens (Chandler, Ariz.) started off the bottom of the first reaching base on a misplay by the second baseman.  Lukens moved up sixty feet on the passed ball but was stranded at second.

The Falcons added three runs in the top of the second and one run in the third to extend their lead to 9-0 after three innings.

The Valkyrie pitching was unable to miss bats in the top of the fifth was Pfeiffer padded their lead with five more runs in the top of the fifth to move out to a 14-0 advantage.

Bri Putnam beat out an infield single to second base for the Valkyries first hit of the contest to break up the no-hitter.  Anna Bennett drew the walk with no outs but the Valkyries were denied their first run of the game as Pfeiffer took the second game 14-0.
