HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

Converse took to the offensive end early in the contest, tallying four shots in the opening period, all of which required attention from the Pioneers goalie.

The scoreless tie would carry all the way into the halftime intermission as neither team could break through on the scoreboard.

Second Half

As the logjam continued into the second half, the Valkyries broke through the only opening of the match at the 38-minute mark of the contest for the lone score. Following a series of fouls, Martinez collected the ball in front of the box and pushed it past the keeper.

The Pioneers aimed for a quick response, earning a penalty corner just one minute later, but the Brianna McCulley's shot glanced off the post and allowed Converse to cling to the single goal lead. Transylvania was able to manifest only one more shot down the stretch in the fourth quarter but the attempt went wide. Converse had success running out the clock the rest of the way to hold on to victory.
