INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

HOW IT HAPPENED

First Quarter

After giving up three goals in the first period to Queens four days ago, the Valkyries defense stiffened to start the rematch, not allowing the Royals to establish any kind of offensive momentum. However, with less than two minutes to play in the opening frame, Queens tacked on the first score following a penalty corner.

Second Quarter

The Royals were able to double its lead in the 28th minute after a goal by Gabe Lechner. The rest of the period was a wash as QU took the advantage into the locker room.

Third Quarter

Converse looked poised to break through on the scoreboard after earning four consecutive penalty corners to begin the second half. However, a trio of shots by the Valkyries were knocked away by the keeper.

That all changed at the 42:50 mark of the contest. Following another penalty corner for Converse, Linders found Bonaventura in front of the cage and she blasted the shot into the back of the box, cutting the deficit in half heading to the fourth period.

Fourth Quarter

Unfortunately, the fourth period was a defensive stalemate as each team was only able to post one shot each during the 15-minute session.

UP NEXT

Converse will head to Saint Charles, Missouri on Saturday, October 12, facing Lindenwood University in non-conference action. That contest is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
