HOW IT HAPPENED

First Half

The initial 15 minutes of the contest was filled with great offense but even better defense as both goalies looked strong. Ciriaca Petitto was tested just minutes into the game, but her athletic ability pushed away three shots by the Cobras to keep the match scoreless.

Kira Martinez was presented an opportunity in front of the Coker goal, but her shot was denied by Kayla Hnasko, sending the game into the second quarter tied 0-0. However, Coker changed that at the 17:57 mark after Victoria Humphreys took a pass from Kelly Mason and snuck into the back of the cage. That was the lone goal for the half and Coker took the 1-0 lead into the half.

Second Half

Converse played much of the third quarter on the defensive end of the field. The Cobras looked to double its lead but Petitto continued to be stellar in goal, fighting off three consecutive shots. However, with less than two minutes to play in the period, Coker was able to find that second goal to push ahead 2-0 leading into the final stanza.

Converse was presented with a golden opportunity in the fourth period after earning a penalty shot at the 46:54 mark. However, Martinez's shot was kicked away by the Cobra keeper. That was the last chance Converse was able to attempt, allowing Coker to escape with the 2-0 win.

UP NEXT

Converse will return to the friendly confines of Spartan High on Friday, September 20, playing host to Bellarmine in a non-conference tilt. That contest is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
