Field Hockey Edged By Molloy

SEAFORD, N.Y. – The Converse (1-12) field hockey team traveled to the Big Apple on Sunday afternoon to play Molloy (12-5) in a non-conference bout. After dropping a 7-0 decision to Molly just three weeks ago, the Valkyries played much more inspired defensively, but it was not enough as MC earned the season sweep with a 2-0 final at Cedar Creek Park.

Flore Samsi led the Purple and Gold with five shots, including two on goal, while Marina Montes-Nino posted two of her four shots on goal. Ciriaca Petitto and Jacqueline Wadsley spilt time in goal, each allowing one score.

The early stages of the contest was a defensive battle as neither team could gain an advantage. However, Molloy took a one-goal lead in the 19th minute after Ellyn Byrnes snuck the ball past Petitto. Samsi looked to tie the match in the 24th minute, but her shot was kicked away by the keeper. The remainder of the first half was uneventful as Molloy took a 1-0 lead into the intermission.

Molloy extended its lead to 2-0 in the 59th minute when Zoe Norton pushed home a penalty corner goal. Converse did not muster a single shot over the final 11 minutes of the contest, falling 2-0.

The Valkyries will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 3 as they travel to Hartsville, S.C. to take on Coker. That match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
