Equestrian Wraps Up Weekend with Fifth Place Finish

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Converse College equestrian team tallied a fifth-place finish overall during the second and final day of competition at the University of South Carolina on Sunday afternoon. Several riders for the Valkyries turned in exceptional performances to lead CC against stout competitors.

Britain Hamrick took home the top spot in the Walk/Trot/Canter/Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat, while Emma Jameson placed fourth in the same event. Julia Williams was able to put together an impressive ride in the Intermediate Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences, pointing out of the division and qualifying for regionals while finishing fourth. Williams also took sixth in Novice Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat. Teammate Jennifer Matusik placed fifth in that event.

Elizabeth Gilbert capped off a solid weekend with finishes of second in Open Hunt Seat Equitation over Fences and third in Open Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat. Caroline Gilliam rounded out the top performers for Converse, taking third in Intermediate Hunt Seat Equitation on the Flat.

This concludes the fall riding portion of the Valkyries schedule as they will return to action on February 2, 2019, taking part in the Georgia Southern Winter competition.
