Equestrian Competes at USC

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. - The Converse Equestrian Team competed October 17th and October 18th at the Intercollegiate Horse Show hosted by the University of South Carolina. The Lady Valkyries placed 7th of 11 total teams on the first day of competition and placed 4th of 11 total teams on the second day of competition.  

The team competes in IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 which is comprised of 11 colleges and universities including those such as Wofford, Clemson, Furman, and other schools in the SC/GA states.

The Saturday results are as follows. Senior, Cecilia Pedersen placed fifth in Intermediate Flat. Senior, Jordan Raska placed fourth in Novice Fences. Sophomore, Lauren Hooks placed sixth in Novice Fences.  Transfer, Corinne Flanary placed sixth in Novice Fences and won her Novice Flat class.

Freshmen, Julia Williams placed sixth in her Novice Fences class. Junior, Addie Ledbetter placed sixth in Novice Flat. Freshmen, Jennifer Matusik placed fifth in Walk Trot. Junior, Heather McCrary placed sixth in Beginner Walk Trot Canter. Sophomore, Nicole Lidzbarski won her Advanced Walk Trot Canter class. Freshmen, Caroline Gilliam placed fifth in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Transfer, Josephine Grimmer placed third and junior, Carson Rehn placed second in Advanced Walk Trot Canter.

The Sunday results are as follows. Freshmen, Lauren Rockwell placed fourth in Open Flat. Senior, Cecilia Pedersen placed sixth in Intermediate Flat and sixth in Intermediate Fences. Transfer, Madeline Wagner placed fourth in Intermediate Fences. Senior, Jordan Raska placed fifth in Novice Fences and first in Novice Flat. Her placings earned her the Reserve High Point Rider Award for the Sunday show.

Sophomore, Lauren Hooks placed fifth in Novice Fences. Transfer, Corinne Flanary placed fifth in Novice Flat. Freshmen, Jenny Matusik placed first in walk trot. Junior, Katie Dixon placed third in Beginner Walk Trot Canter and Junior, Heather McCrary placed fifth in Beginner Walk Trot Canter. Freshmen, Caroline Gilliam placed second in Advanced Walk Trot Canter, and Transfer, Josephine Grimmer placed third in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Sophomore, Nicole Lidzbarski won her Advanced Walk Trot Canter class which pointed her up in to the Novice Division and she qualified for Regionals for Advanced Walk Trot Canter.

The team travels to the College of Charleston for their next show which was held on November 14, 2015.
