Converse Equestrian Places Second at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, GA. - The Converse Equestrian Team tied for 2nd with College of Charleston at the first horse show of the season at Georgia Southern over the weekend.  Georgia Southern and the University of South Carolina tied for first above the Valkyries. The team competes in IHSA Zone 5 Region 3 which is comprised of 11 colleges and universities including those such as Wofford, Clemson, Furman, and other schools in the SC/GA states.

The team welcomes four freshmen: coming from the upper and lower state of SC and one from VA and three transfers, two from Sweet Briar College and one from Clemson.

Transfer Junior, Madeline Wagner started off the day with a fifth place finish in Intermediate Over Fences. Maddie also placed 2nd in Intermediate on the Flat. Next, freshmen, Julia Williams placed fourth in Novice Over Fences. Sophomore, Lauren Hooks placed 5th in Novice Over Fences and also competed in Novice on the Flat. 

Junior, Addie Ledbetter won her Novice Over Fences class and transfer sophomore, Corinne Flanary was not far behind with a third place finish. Addie Ledbetter then went on to place third in Novice on the Flat with Corrine Flanary earning the reserve spot. Addie's 1st and 3rd place finishes earned her the Reserve High Point Rider award for the show.

Freshmen, Lauren Rockwell placed 2nd in Open on the Flat. She also competed in Open Over Fences.

Senior, Jordan Raska competed in Novice over Fences and Novice on the Flat.

Junior, Carson Rehn sealed a third place finish in Advanced Walk Trot Canter. Junior, Heather McCrary won her Walk Trot class which qualified her for the Regional Finals in April. She will now move up a level to Beginner Walk Trot Canter.

Freshmen, Caroline Gilliam placed third in her Advanced Walk Trot Canter division. Junior, Katie Dixon placed sixth in Beginner Walk Trot Canter. Sophomore, Nicole Lidzbarski earned second place in Advanced Walk Trot Canter and transfer sophomore, Josephine Grimmer earned the reserve spot. Rounding out the day, freshmen Jenny Matusik placed 5th in walk trot.

The team will travel to the University of South Carolina for their next show to be held on October 17-18th.
