WACO, TEXAS – The Converse College acrobatics and tumbling team fell in the first round of the 2019 NCATA National Championships to No. 3 Azusa Pacific by the final of 267.190-258.555 on Thursday afternoon inside the Ferrell Center.

Azusa Pacific took an early lead in the meet with a slim 36.550-36.150 margin of victory in the opening compulsory event. The toss heat was very favorable to the Valkyries as they outscored the Cougars 9.75-9.575 in the heat.

APU continued to stretch its lead following wins in the acro (28.175-26.425) and pyramid (29.300-28.900) events, taking a 94.025-91.475 lead into the halftime intermission.

The Cougars did not let up following the brief hiatus, collecting wins in the final three events, including a pivotal 90.990-87.480 in the team event to eliminate the Valkyries from the team competition.

Although the Purple and Gold are finished for the season in the team portion of the championships, the Valkyries earned three spots in the National Event Finals on Saturday, April 27. Pyramid One along with Tyaeme and Tanjae Haugabook-Lugo's solo passes have qualified for the finals.
