Valkyries Dominate Belmont Abbey In Season Opener

FINAL SCORING

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse College Acrobatics and Tumbling team opened the 2019 competition season with a dominant 266.190-115.825 win over Belmont Abbey on Saturday afternoon inside Hannah Gymnasium. The Valkyries gained separation early and never looked back, going 2-0 in their season-opening meets as a program.

The compulsory event was very kind to the Purple and Gold as they created distance early on after a 36.80-21.60 overall victory. Next, was the acro event, which the Valkyries also dominated, outscoring the Crusaders by a total of 27.90-19.65.

The pyramid event was the closest of the day between the two teams, but Converse would come away with another win (28.65-22.65) to balloon the overall lead, heading into halftime. After the 15-minute hiatus, the Vals picked up where they left off, dominating Abbey in the toss event by the score of 25.90-17.50. A 23-point spread (52.7-34.425) in the tumbling event put the meet out of reach leading into the team event.

Belmont Abbey did not perform during the team routine, while Converse collected a score of 94.24 to make the final margin of victory, 266-116.

Converse will be back in action on Saturday, February 23, traveling to Fairmont, WV to take on Fairmont State University. That meet is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
