Valkyries Drop First Meet to Gannon

RESULTS

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Converse (2-1) acro and tumbling team tasted defeat for the first time in its inaugural season, falling to Gannon University (3-0) on Tuesday evening inside Hannah Gymnasium. The Golden Knights won five of six events during the meet to earn the slim 269.425-264.170 victory. During the meet the Valkyries were able to set new program highs in the pyramid, toss, and tumbling events.

Both teams started with impressive showings during the compulsory event with GU edging the Vals 37.30-36 to take the early lead. That lead grew to 65.35-62.80 after a narrow 1.25 point (28.05-26.80) win in the acro event.

Gannon also took the pyramid event by the score of 29.20-29.05 before Converse closed the gap with a toss event win (27.40-27.25). However, the Golden Knights captured the tumbling (53.525-51.650) and team (94.10-93.27) events to earn the win in the Valkyries first-ever home meet.

Converse will be back in action on Wednesday, March 7 as it hosts defending national champion, Baylor, in a dual meet at the Weisiger Center. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.
