Morton Attends 2019 NCAA Division II Identity Workshop

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse College head cross country and track and field coach Brandon Morton was one of two Conference Carolinas coaches that attended the 2019 NCAA Division II Identity Workshop, held at the NCAA Headquarters in Indianapolis, Ind., held June 26-28.

"The identity workshop was a great experience," Morton said. "It was an opportunity to learn more about the NCAA Division II experience from those that are behind the scenes."

The NCAA Division II Identity Workshop is a professional development retreat for coaches featuring leadership training, best practices for community engagement opportunities, social media, fundraising and risk management training. This is the fourth year of the workshop. Morton was joined as a representative by University of Mount Olive's head baseball coach Rob Watt.

The three day event was jam-packed with the coaches doing sessions with Justin Patton, an executive leadership coach. He worked with the coaches on leadership, and personal values.

"Patton is a phenomenal speaker and even better person," Morton said. "He had a lot of resources for us. We spent time with him working on ourselves."

In addition, the attendees were exposed to topics ranging from what the NCAA provides, marketing, fundraising, and more.

Morton had several big takeaways from the experience as he looks to bring the knowledge he gained to his teams beginning with the 2019 season.

"We discussed everything from fundraising and our perception of Division II athletics as a whole, to mental health ad working with others," he concluded.
