McCarrick Resigns as Lacrosse Head Coach

SPARTANURG, S.C. – Converse College Athletic Director Jennifer Bell announced the resignation of head lacrosse coach Sammy McCarrick on Friday, along with plans to search for the next leader of the Valkyries' program.

"I want to thank Coach Sammy McCarrick for all she has done for our lacrosse program," said Bell. "We wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors." "Our focus now turns to our student-athletes, and we want to make sure we find someone who will hit the ground running in recruiting and who will work to continue the progress this team has made during Coach McCarrick's time with us."

McCarrick was at the helm of the lacrosse program for two full seasons and served as the assistant during the 2016-17 campaign. During her time at Converse, Sammy helped guide the Purple and Gold to back-to-back Conference Carolinas tournament appearances as the No. 6 seed.

McCarrick, one of the best scorer's in women's lacrosse, brought her knowledge to the campus of Converse, helping lead Brittni Jones to second place in the conference for goals scored (75) in the 2017-18 season. She also helped to produce two members of the Conference Carolinas All-Conference team.

"It saddens me to leave this group of young women, but I know the leadership on this upcoming team will be able to continue the progress the program has made," said McCarrick. "I am grateful to Converse for this opportunity, but am excited to change course. I wish the department success and all the best in its future."
