Rogers Selected to Present Biomedical Research

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Converse College sophomore Lindsey Rogers has always showcased her talents on the basketball court, but now she has her eyes set on something bigger than athletics, human health.

Rogers will be presenting research conducted over the summer with Dr. Will Case for the idea of a cholesterol biosensor for detection of cholesterol in human blood. The research could potentially lead to the development of a commercial cholesterol biosensor that will be efficient, cheap, and produce instant results, which in turn will limit the time spent in a doctor's office.

"I am extremely thankful for the opportunity I was given," said Rogers. "It certainly has opened my eyes to another side of science that I had no idea existed. Because of my experience this summer and the doors opened for me from it, I will look to possibly do research again in the future and examine ways to expand research careers in the physical therapy field of science."

Lindsey will be presenting her research at the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS). The conference is the one of the largest conferences for minorities in the nation. Along with presenting her research to professors, scientists, and other students from across the nation, Rogers will attend several sessions throughout the conference to learn about graduate schools, enhance research and presentation skills, and network with some of the biomedical field's most prestigious researchers.

"I couldn't be more proud of Lindsey," said head basketball coach Dean Walsh. "She's an extremely bright young lady as well as a talented athlete. TO be chosen to do this is such a great honor. Lindsey strives to be successful in the classroom and on the court. She is well on her way to making her dreams happen," he concluded.

The conference will be held on November 14-17 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
